Event highlights

• The annual Light up Downtown event will bring holiday fun and fireworks to the heart of downtown tonight.

• As in year’s past, Santa Claus and the cheerful Christopher Pop-in-Kins  — Santa’s Official Children’s Elf — are part of the event’s special musical main stage show, “An Elf-traordinary Holiday Celebration,” which is set for 6 p.m. on Market Square, off Market Avenue between Third and Fourth streets northwest. The show also will feature more than 100 local performers and end with a fireworks display.

• The fun doesn’t stop at the end of the show. Visitors can enjoy 16 city blocks of entertainment and activities, including carriage rides, craft making, giveaways, local dance troupe performances, singing, live music and refreshments.

• Revelers can take horse-drawn sleigh rides from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Rides leave from the McKinley Grand Hotel at 320 Market Ave. S.

• Santa will make his way through downtown, with appearances at the Stark County District Library main branch (715 Market Ave. N), Stark Community Foundation (400 Market Ave. N), Key Bank (126 Central Plaza N), the Salvation Army (420 Market Ave. S) and Canton Classic Car Museum (123 Sixth St. SW).

• My 101.7 and K-105 will host live remote broadcasts from downtown.

• A map and a full schedule of activities and entertainment are available online at www.downtowncantonevents.com/light-up-downtown.

Light up Downtown is the city’s big holiday gift to the area, providing free entertainment for all ages.
